Hi. Please respond to the following questions (I searched the forum and couldn't find clear-cut answers)...

    1. What is the equipment/gear-quality color progression (lowest to highest)? Is it gray (basic), green (improved), blue (magic), purple (extraordinary), orange (legendary), and yellow (unique), as listed in the Gem section?

    2. Do these colors refer to the color of the Name of the gear or the Box the gear is in? Eg, "Tracker Arrow", though in a pink box, is written in yellow. Which color matters? (Also, I noticed there was no "pink" listed in the colors mentioned in #1, so now I'm really confused).

    3. Does it matter at what level a piece of equipment is available, ie, the higher the level, the better the gear? Eg, a Cultist's Bow (gray box) requires level 23, while the Magic Bow of Thorns (blue box) was required at level 15. Which is the better gear (stats aside)? Should I keep the Magic Bow of Thorns? Ie, which is more important: gear color or its starting level?

    4. What is the advantage of upgrading to Higher-Color gear, as opposed to just upgrading lower-color gear via the Blacksmith? Seems upgrading to a higher color usually means loss of some stats (eg, armor). Eg, as a Ranger, I really like and have been keeping the Magic Stalker's Mask (did not like the cap or Wolf's head). Will this hurt me down the line?

    5. Vaguely related question: how do you access other players' character profiles (pic, stats)? In other games, I always found that info useful as guides for crafting my own character.

Thanks for any responses. I really like DSO, but it's not set up typically like most online browser games.

    1. You are correct.
    2. The color refers only to the item. Some people call purple pink, try not to think about it.
    3. Yes and no. Higher level items can have higher stats but not always better than a lower level item as the stats are random within a range of possibilities.
    4. Green will have 1 stat, blue will have 2 stats, purple will have 3, and orange will have 4, but uniques can have anything, including stats you can't find on normal items.
    5. You can't.

Bonus info: Uniques will always have 4 gems slots, orange will always have at least 2 slots and purples will always have at least one slot.

So, if I understand you correctly...
    - The color that matters is the "box background" color surrounding the item (not the color of the item's name).
    - Not sure what you mean by #4. But the gist seems to be, upgrade to higher colors, if possible (ie, if you can still do your quests), even if there's some initial loss of stats.

No, the item only has one color and the name, the box (icon), and the base color will match the quality of the item. You can use dyes to change the color when you wear the item but the item will not change.

The name of the item will also tell you the quality
A green item will have 1 stat, eg. 12 damage
A blue item will have 2 stats, eg. 15% crit damage, 20 crit
A purple iten will have 3 stats, eg. 25 crit, 5% damage, 8 damage
An orange item will have 4 stats, eg. 8 damage, 4.5% damage, 6% attack speed, 25 crit
A yellow "unique" item can have anything

I think what's throwing me off is the randomness range of stats you mentioned in your first answer. Not used to this much "variety." I appreciate your responses. Thnx.

It is the same pattern for all RPG games throughout the past decades.

If it helps to see other people's stats, there are threads under each class along the lines of "Show what you have" where users share character information. Many of them are end level players but not all.

Yeah, I found a few of those. They do help, especially when it comes to equipment upgrading. You really have to budget your resources (cough*andermant*cough) in this game.
