My lvl 25 ranger, Oakhand, working out of Werian Sanctuary has hit a problem. My firing rate is dangerously slowed. and I get the statement Not enough concentration, time and time again. I am ready to abandon this character but before I do, perhaps someoone can help. What could be causing this?

First i would like to tell you that there are 4 classes in this game and their resource pools have different names, these resources are used for casting skills it is indicated on the left of the HUD with a sphere.

    Spellweavers have Mana
    Steam Mech. have Steam
    Dragon Knights have Rage and
    Rangers have Concentration

What is happening is that you are using your concentration faster than it is able to refill which is normal, your basic attack costs 3 as you are a ranger but it can be removed with the second talent for that skill.

There is no need for you to quit the character, no matter which class you play you will find your self out of resource very often.

    Hello AnnaConda,

Unfortunately, this is a common problem for Rangers, while still being low lvl. There is nothing you can do currently to gain more concentration, other than levelling up to gain the skill talents called "Adrenaline" and "Deathblow". These skills will then allow you to regain concentration when skilled properly.

At lvl 30 you get "Adrenaline", and the "Deathblow" you should already have, but the skill to gain back 100% concentration (when killing a monster with it), is also higher lvl, I believe. So you need to open your skill tree, and have a look on those two skills, and check to see how much points you need to invest and at which lvl you get those two.

Otherwise, the only way to play the ranger efficiently at your lvl, is to adjust your way of playing. Meaning, if you run out of concentration, circle the enemy until you have enough to cast your net or trap on them, and then to kill them. Other than that, you can also run away, somewhere savely and wait for the concentration to be refilled...

While you're checking your skill tree, have a look on the net and the trap. if you have the lvl requirement, and can spare a few points, either skill the net or the trap. Both skills accomplish to mark the enemy (green arrow), so you can kill more than one of them at the same time with the precision shot, saving you adrenaline at the same time. Marking is important, as otherwise the precision shot will hit the enemy and do basically nothing.

Ekant gave you an excellent suggestion. This gives you an attack that you can spam while your concentration regenerates as opposed to depleting it further. Another option is to use a long bow instead of a short bow for two reasons. First, you use 20% less concentration on your attacks. Second, you attack slower, but with heavier hits meaning that you use what concentration you have with more efficiency.

Gather the monsters together and use hunting traps ... then you can use your PS effectively.
Many monsters at small radius makes magic for rangers ... besides hitting many monsters with one shot sometimes you can get "ricochet effect" when they are too close to each other ... just saying. :)

OK thanks, folks. I still have a magic skirmishers bow, so it looks as if getting a duria longbow would help, even if its attack is at a lower effect than my magic skirmishers shortbow at 1348 CV.

    Never compare CV :D
it is another useless feature in the game.

Agreed! There is no single feature in the game that is as useless or downright misleading as the CV system. Ignore that number and pay attention to what items do for your stats or your build.

No one said rangers need more concentration, they simply need to use what they have more efficiently.

Something I've noticed as a ranger too... and really any other class... is that watching and learning how and when monsters attack is a really great tactic for crowd control.

Go out sometime into an area and just run around. Don't attack anything, and try to survive and avoid getting hit. This lets you watch just when and how monsters attack, get a general idea of their reach and reactions, and learn their timing. Some monsters, for example, will get close enough to attack then pause for a second, lining up with you before trying to hit you. Others go right for the kill, and still others will 'charge up', giving you time to avoid the actual hit.

I've run around on a map with 12 hounds, 4 Wildherz boars and 5 Wildherz archers trying to hit me, and all of them missing, just by pausing and moving at the right times. I did it while weaving in and out of the crowd, and it made them group beautifully for my killing shots later on. Try to get the effects that make your green arrows penetrate on the first hit, and always take skills that reduce concentration costs. And remember to 'stick and move'; pop off a few shots, then reposition yourself for a few more. Try to learn the timing of your own attacks as well. you want to know how much time it takes for whatever amount of shots you're trying to take vs the speed of your opponent.

I hope you're still playing your Ranger; it's a great class.

Ranger still is my favourite class, though both my rangers got crippled by the "not enough" pest. Especially useful when using tactical retreats before overwhelming odds until the last remaining enemies flee in panic.

The concentration is enough, you need to learn how to maintain it (it comes with time). Basically, gather mobs, mark them all (net/trap/blade dance), release hell upon them.
As DracosBW said, learning their attacks is a very good thing to do.
