Seems like a reasonable idea, considering that it's a pretty common thing in other games. Why not share gems, essences and other universal items? There is plenty of stuff to farm and craft when starting a new character, so it would be more interesting to be able to focus on getting stuff that is actually fun to hunt.

The downside would be the actual available space for each character's items (instead of 7 pages for each character it will be 7 for all), but hey - maybe a good possibility here to add more expansions and motivate people to buy them :)

It's been a while since we've had one of these threads, so I guess we were due for one.

    In a word...
    "NO!"

You miss all the real down sides. You list a down side of space, but ignore what sharing gems would do to low level PvP (which is still broke as hell). You also ignore the ease of farming certain items at higher levels and how it would benefit the lower level toons in a way that is imbalanced. Think of essence. Blues drop in stacks of 300+ for LVL 55s, but much less for the lower levels. If the devs wanted low levels to have that many blues, they would just increase the drops for low level players. Then there is the various things you can get from a brand new character like spirit guards and things like that. People would make new toons, get those items, share them with their mains, and then delete the original and do it all over again.

I've written plenty of explanations of why trade, in any version, is a horrible idea. Feel free to read some of them.

  4. Trade has been suggested many times over the years, but more often than not, the suggested systems are open to wild exploitation or blatant cheating. If you want to suggest a trade like system, I recommend you put some thought into how to make it difficult/impossible to exploit so that it can be something that the mods could feel comfortable recommend to the DSO team.

The only type of somewhat trading that would make sense and not be exploited would be a type of system for trading with a NPC, and even then it would have to be very simple and narrow.

Something like trading ess at the dealer. Trade X amount of lower green for X amount of next tiered green. Trade X amount of highest green ess for X amount of blue. X amount of blue for X amount of purple. X amount of purple for X amount of red. Or maybe limit it to just blue to purple and purple to red, but at least that way I cannot foresee any way to exploit it.

There could also be something like gem swapping with the gem dealer X for X. Diamond for Amethyst or Cyanite (same level). Then Ruby and Onyx (same level) could be swapped for the other as needed. If trading/swapping was kept at the same cost level, if you get more than you like of one type, you could exchange it at the dealer for the type you want. Sort of like the current swapping of sapphires for rubies/onyx.

Other than that, I cannot think of any other type of trading that would be simple.

Any type of trading between characters or players would be exploited, that has been proven in many games.

Too exploitable and that would reduce bp's gain, you have to open much less inventory space

    i'm against it

Dayum, you beat me to it. :p

Also, hell no, I won't even bother reading, no to every and any form of trading in DSO, period, I'll paraphrase one of our Gurús for this:

Well that is easy, allow players to submit items to "a store of sorts" the price can only be set in anderments.
Bigpoint takes x% of the profit gained in anderment and the player takes the balance.
It will motivate people to buy crafted uniques yes but the price will be at a premium, many payers will buy anderment to attain certain items.
The only items allowed in this is gear, no currenies, no glyphs, no "spheres", realm paths, or gems, nothing only gear.
Be sure that the owner of the crafted items that they sell will invest their anderments wisely...

It will only motivate me to exploit the hell out of it.

After all these available traders and merchants in events, PWs, urban areas ... etc ... someone is still in need of trading system?
Because someone is lazy to do things?

And how will you exploit it? Sell your crafts for a portion of anderments?
Your items will be level 55 so any level can buy it but they will still have to reach level 55
However bp will gain a lot of purchases from this.
Example how much gold did you spend on each craft?
I read they are working on a balanced drop rate for gold values, so implementing a selling system is not that bad

Just because you are newer player and you don't see the big picture ... that doesn't mean the other players can't see it.
The reason all these merchants and traders are in the game ATM is because the devs have no intention of making player to player trading system. Otherwise they would never brought them in the game in first place.
There are endless ways of exploiting any trading system ... that is why many games are leaving or they already left trading.

with @Phyrix 's suggestion the first thing I'd do would be to organize the item mafia with enough rich friends we could buy out everything with a reasonable price and gain a monopoly over the market..this way we'd be setting the prices, and get massive profits.. it would be the dream come true.. it would be like in poe with mirrors every single league

    The very obvious way.

Level 55 items sell and melt for more than level 10 items. So if my level 10 character in the pw was getting 55 items, I could easily exploit the system.

There are many games that have trading systems and in each case, players have exploited it. The single best thing DSO has done is avoid this.

Now, it is nice to see that they are adding a NPC trading like I suggested earlier in this thread and in older ones.

It would be more appropriate if this thread was turned into a necromancer suggestion thread, after all this thread was necroed

One of the side effects ... you get players playing to make a living from the game.
